first I take two mason jars and fill them with lukewarm tap water and let them sit (tightly capped) overnight in a dark place, like my closet or bathtub with the curtain closed. I purchase a pack of giant pixy stix and choose a blue pixy stick and set the rest aside (you can eat the other colors as you will not need them). next I make a mixture of vegetable oil, ground ginger root, and a splash of sunkist orange soda. I put this mixture into a turkey baster. using an x-acto knife, I carefully cut a slice down the entire length of the stick. with my index and middle fingers, I pull the plastic apart to expose the powder. I take the turkey baster and apply three squirts of the prepared mixture into the center of the line of pixy dust, then I use super glue to repair the sliced tube. after the mason jars are finished sitting (approximately 12 hours) I take them out and empty them into a large bowl. I place the pixy stick in the bowl, rotating the submerged end of the stick every hour until I feel the stick has reached the appropriate temperature (room temperature). then I reopen the stick and remove the clumps that have gathered. I allow them to air dry until they are solid. I separate them according to weights I measure on a small scale. next is the fun part. I find cellophane from empty cigarette packs and put the dust rocks into them. I seal them with a lighter and put them in my backpack. then I draw with markers and pens.
